Benue State Government has begun the distribution of grains that are part of the relief materials supplied to the state by the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to various Internally Displaced Peraons camps in the state.
Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Dr. Emmanuel Shior stated this while briefing journalists on the distribution process at the SEMA office in Makurdi, Benue State.
He said while the distribution of the grains at host communities in the affected local governments ended yesterday, another distribution begins today with the target audience being only the IDPs in the camps.
“Yesterday, we rounded up the distribution of grains that have come from the Federal Government through NEMA to Benue SEMA. The distribution is in two phases, on one part, is the host communities and on the other part are IDP camps”.
” Today we have commenced the distribution of the grains at the various IDP camps in the state” he said.
According to him, the camps to benefit from the the distribution of grains are, Guma – Daudu camp 1, 2,and 3, Abagena in Makurdi, Anyiin and Ugba in Logo local government, Naka camp in Gwer-west and an unofficial camp in Kwande Local Government Area.
He explained that although the Kwande camp has not attained official status, intervention will be taken to the IDPs non the less in view of the recent herdsmen attacks that bedeviled the Nyihemba and Jato aka communities of Kwande.
The Executive Secretary added the exercise will be for a few days.
