The Benue State Scout Commissioner, Thomas Dio, has called on the state Chief Judge, Justice Aondoaver Kakaan to take up his responsibility as president of the State Council of the Association towards reorganising the leadership of the organization according to the previsions of the constitution of the Scout Association of Nigeria.
The Scout Commissioner made the appeal during a courtesy visit on the Chief Judge in his office in Makurdi recently.
He said the organization had suffered setbacks in discharging her duties to the people of the state as a result of the vacancy created in its state administrative hierarchy and structure at the retirement of the last Chief Judge.
Mr. Dio said, “In accordance with the provesions of the constitution of the Scout Association of Nigeria, Article IV, Section 6a, the president of the state council, may be a Chief Judge of the state or any prominent Nigerian who is interested in the association”.
He admitted that his tenure of office as the state scout commissioner had expired, but the organization failed to hold its constitutional AGM because they were yet to have a president whose responsibility covers those duties.
Mr. Dio expressed optimism in the ability of Justice Kakaan to pilot the scouting organization in the state as its chief commissioner.
He disclosed that “we have enjoyed all previous administrations of the past chief judges of the state as presidents of the Benue State Scout Council and we are hoping that yours will be same.
The commissioner said, the organization’s mission was adopted by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), and its focus was to “contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the scout promise and law, to help build a better world where people are self fulfilled as individual and play a constructive role in the society”.
