Lobi Stars thrash Adamawa United 1-0


Though predictably, Lobi Stars recently at the Gombe Stadium in an NPFL match No 128, Day 13 beat Adamawa United in their adopted home base with a slim margin of 0-1.

It took 51 minutes of eventful quest to get the result determining one goal that gave Lobi Stars the three points at stake and further sink Adamawa United deep in to relegation waters. 

The match kicked off at 3:43, about 17 minutes earlier than the official 4pm to stern the early falling if tides in Gombe state given the weather condition by the host Adamawa United but Lobi Stars took over, the first chance that would have put Lobi Stars in to early lead was shot over the bar after wonder boy Abdulkareem Mumini break through the right flank in the 3rd minute with the speed of light, break and turn in to lay the ball for an on rushing John Lazarus who powered a long shot that went over the bar.

5 Minutes later, Mumini took on Mbai Aminu of Adamawa United on the left side dribbled and left him crawling, his well delivered cross found team mate Nzube Anaezemba who failed to make the best and meaningful use of the opportunity and the available Adamawa defender Luran Javan clear out of danger.

In the 23rd minute, Lobi Stars got a free kick when  Samad Kadiri was brought down as he was headed towards the opponents goal. The free kick exposed the Adamawa defense to danger but Emmanuel Oguagu eased off the situation.

Lobi Stars effort almost paid off when a throw in awarded to Lobi Stars was delivered by Udochukwu Anumudu to Samad, Anumudu continued the run on the left flank, Samad saw his run and back heeled the ball that beat the defence, Anumudu did a quick cross but the timely intervention of  goalkeeper Pwadadi  saved what had look an apparent goal.

Anumudu had a similar opportunity again and his timely across located striker Abdulkareem Mumini whose half volley was not effective enough to beat the goalkeeper. Adamawa United had a chance that would have given them a goal but the referee relied on the diligence of the AR1 who judged Benue born Agbanyi Vershima offside.

There wasn’t any significant move from both sides for the remaining 6 minutes to end of first half till  the centre  Referee call for half time at 45+1. Half time scores, Adamawa United 0-0 Lobi Stars.

Upon resumption in to the second half, team captain Ayagwa Raphael contested the ball and was left on ground, the Referee called for medical attention and he was carried out.

Lobi Stars got back in to the game make advances at goal, Abdulkareem Mumini broke through the right side but who brought down, his second attempt in the same right wing, he add vigour and out ran the defence and delivered an accurate cross to Tamara Ezekiel who made no mistake placing home for the only goal of the match in 51st minutes.

3 minutes later Chinedu Udeagha took over from the scorer of the only goal of the match Tamara Ezekiel. Nzube Anaezemba was issued a yellow card as Udeagha was yet to settle down for business. Adamawa United in search of an equaliser introduced John Paul for Eka Unegbe.

62 minutes of play, Samad Kadiri got an opening in  towards the Adamawa area and thundered a 25 metre shot at goal but the goalkeeper had no challenges with the shot. A yellow card was also issued to Adamawa United Emmanuel Oguagu and a second substitution follows as Sadiq Lawan was introduced for Luran Javan.

Nzube had to give way for Austin Ogunye. 78 minutes, Abdulkareem Mumini took a solo effort, ran down the central defender of Adamawa United, came face to face with goalkeeper Bulus Pwadadi but luck ran out of Mumini as his placing was deflected out of danger by Pwadadi.

Adamawa United pied some pressure on Lobi Stars as they some frantic efforts to equaliser the goal but Adeleye and Earnest Governor stood in between until the Referee sounded his whistle for the end of the game at 90+4 minutes.

By this victory and the 1-0 loss of Plateau United in the hands of Katsina United, Lobi Stars are now sharing the first spot with 24 points each and same goal of +10 with an advantageous outstanding home game against Rangers Int’l.
