Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has commended the NKST Church for its foresight in providing educational services in the state and beyond.
Represented by his deputy Engr Benson Abounu at the 4th combined convocation ceremony of the University of Mkar, Mkar held today at the university, Governor Ortom commended the university for its achievements since inception in 2005 and appreciated the role the NKST has been playing in providing educational services, healthcare among others.
Governor Ortom assured the university of his administration’s continuous support towards achieving the university’s goal of becoming a world class institution and called on the university management to liaise with the commissioner of works in order to rehabilitate roads within the university.
In his remarks, the Tor Tiv His Royal highness Ochivirigh Prof. James Ayatse, congratulated the students and university management on the occasion of the institution’s fourth convocation and urged the university to keep up with the great work, pledging his total support towards improved welfare of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Mkar, Mkar, Prof. Iorwuese Gernah, in his welcome address enumerated some of his achievements which included the launching of University of Mkar, Mkar – UMM Radio Station, establishment of information and ICT centre, increase in academic programmes from 12 to 15 among others.
Part of activities at the convocation was the installation of Senator Barnabas Germade as the new chancellor of the university and the award of honorary doctorate degrees to Brig. Gen. Atom Kpera rtd, Dr. Dirk Vander Steen and Mrs Adedolapo Vaatia.
University of Mkar convocated 1230 graduates comprising 23 first class, 308 second class upper, 509 second class lower,241 3rd class and eight with pass degrees.
Present at the event were dignitaries from various works of life including Senator Orker Jev, Mrs Regina Akume, vice chancellors from several universities and many others.
