PRESIDENT Muhammandu Buhari of Nigeria has scored yet another point in history of governance.
THE president recently announced the suspension of the planned Rural Grazing Area popularly known as RUGA.
THIS followed the huge outcry from Nigerians of all walks of life who protested to register their objection to the establishment of the scheme.
AT the heels of these outcries and protests, President Buhari instantly announced the suspension of the planned establishment of the scheme across the country.
Nigerians greeted Mr President’s announcement suspending the scheme with overwhelming approval.
BY this gesture, Mr President has demonstrated that he indeed, a listening leader which is one of the marks of great leader.
WE join other Nigerians in commending Mr President for demonstrating this great quality of a great leader and urge him to keep it up.
WE, however, advise that following the huge outcries of condemnation and disapprovals that have trailed this project which has been presented to Nigerians in various guise- cattle colonies, cattle ranches and now RUGA, President Buhari should not just suspend the project but permanently put it to rest in line with the yearnings and aspirations of majority of Nigerians.
FROM all indications, this project has the potential of bringing the country into a chaotic and near-war situation which would not augur well for the country.
FULANI herders whom this scheme is intended for should avoid the temptation of seeing those who oppose the scheme as their enemies but look at their actions as borne out of the fear and suspicion that the scheme might bring about unpleasant consequences should it be accepted.
By the same token, President Buhari and the Federal Government must resist the temptation to see Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his stance on the issue as a confrontation to the Federal authorities and the President.
RATHER, the President and the Federal Government should see the Governor of Benue State as the champion of the concerns and cause of his people.
INDEED, Governor Ortom is only doing the bidding of his people which as we can see, is also the concern of majority of Nigerians over the Fulani herdsmen’s issue.
